Okay Fine, I’m Grateful

Hello everyone! In today’s post I wanted to take some time to reflect on the many blessings that I have in my life, and really shift my mindset to a more optimistic one. 2018 has been a year that consisted of many ups and downs for me personally and all in all was pretty tough. But, looking back on the year,  I can see how I have grown as a person and the changes that I have made to lead a healthier, happier lifestyle. 

Most importantly, it is crucial to take a step back from the crazy lives we live, and look at the bigger picture. In preparation for my study abroad trip to Rome, I was wandering around Barnes and Noble looking for a sketch book to take with me. Among finding hundreds of other cute things and so many inspiring books, I came across this small little journal that I knew I really needed to have in my life. 


I started flipping through the pages of this little journal, and I knew that I needed it in my life. Each page has a quote on one side, and on the other, a space to write out why you are feeling grateful on a particular day. I think this is is something that is really unique, and it really has had a positive impact on my mindset recently. Even in times when I am feeling negative, and not at my best, I am able to look back through my entries from the past, and recognize the many blessings in my life and all the things that I have to be grateful for. 

In today’s culture, it is easy to get caught up in our daily routines, without thinking about the little things that we should be thankful for each and every day. From the moment we wake up from a night’s rest in a warm bed, to the opportunity most of us have to go to school or work, to be surrounded by family and friends, etc. Each day that we wake up is a blessing, and something good can come out of everyday. Although there ought be some bad days that come up in our lives, there is always going to be something that helps us to take a step back and simply be grateful.

In this post, I wanted to curate a list of 10 things that I sometimes am guilty of overlooking to remind myself and others of the little things that we are blessed to have the opportunity to have: 

  1. My family
  2. My friends
  3. My pets
  4. My education
  5. The opportunities that I have been given to travel
  6. The opportunities to serve others
  7. My health
  8. Clean water
  9. Yummy and healthy food
  10. The opportunities I have to share my passions/talents/gifts with others

Overall, this list seems pretty basic to most, maybe even cheesy, but these are things that unfortunately not all people have access to or the opportunity to do. This ‘basic’ list consists of different things and people that I admit, I sometimes take for granted. Because I have been so lucky in regards to the people that are in my life, and the support that I have from my family and friends, these things have never really been a concern for losing. However, I know that not all people are in the same position as me, and that is something that is important to remember. 

In my journal, I go into specific details about situations, events, opportunities, people, etc. in which I am especially grateful for at any particular time, and this again is something that has really helped me to change my mindset to a more positive one. I encourage you all to try to do the same, and begin shifting your mindset to always try and see the good in your own lives.
